Experience

Since qualifying as an art therapist over ten years ago, I have gained extensive experience working with individuals and groups, using art therapy in a variety of settings.  For the last five years I have worked mainly with adults and adolescents in one-to-one art therapy and counselling.  As this is within a generic counselling agency, the work encompasses a wide spectrum of the issues that people bring to therapy.

Approach

While grounded in a psychodynamic training, my practice over the years has developed a more eclectic and exploratory approach.  Therapy needs to respond and adpat to who the individual person is, and to the needs of their own process, while always remaining contained within the therapeutic relationship.  Through this, and in paying undivided and uncritical attention, I aim to work with you to help identify and build upon your own resources for growth and change.

Art Therapy

Sometimes our most important thoughts and feelings are hard to express in words alone and the process of personal image making can access parts of ourselves that we need to explore.  In art therapy, art materials are used to play and experiment with, to create personal imagery and time is taken to explore and reflect on this process.  You do not have to have had any experience in using art before and I do not impose interpretation on images. We work together to discover what they mean to you.
